What is Fusion for Product Design?

With all the additional functionality available in Autodesk Fusion through the extensions, it can often be tricky determining the best combination of extensions to use. On top of this, purchasing these extensions can also get quite pricey. Autodesk has introduced a licensing package aimed at Product Designers called ‘Fusion for Product Design’ which has been created to solve these issues.

Who is it for?

As the name suggests, this group of extensions is for Product Designers within Autodesk Fusion. Especially designers who are involved in the full lifecycle of the product from Concept, Design, Test and through the Release process.

What is included?

Fusion Design Extension: This extension is mostly focused on plastic modelling techniques, which allows for the creation of Plastic Design rules including Material, Draft Angle, Thickness and Nominal Radius. It also includes time saving parametric design features such as Bosses, Clips and Rests.

Fusion Simulation Extension: Fusion has a powerful simulation environment allowing designers to test their designs before creating physical test models. These simulations are solved in the cloud in the background, freeing up local computing resources for modelling. Simulations are by default solved using cloud credits, however, the Simulation Extension gives you unlimited solves on all simulation options.

Fusion Manage: The Manage Extension allows users to push products through release cycles including change orders. The lifecycles are not limited to designers only.. anyone with access to the project can engage with the product lifecycle, including non-CAD users.

Why Fusion for Product Design?

If you are looking to spend less time modelling complex, repetitive geometry, and more time innovating, the Product Design extension will advance your capabilities in the design cycle, achieving exactly that.

Utilising the Simulation Extension reduced development costs associated with testing your designs, only testing physical models once they’ve passed the simulation. This in turn, saves time and money, whilst getting to manufacturing sooner.

Getting more people involved in the approval process from different department and territories ensures a streamlines production process. Using the Manage Extension will give the right people access to your designs at the right time.
