Whilst running the BIM and Digital Construction Fundamentals course for one of our clients recently, it made me think a little about the industry; what we think of BIM and what it means to us. I asked those who attended the course to write on a post-it note what BIM means to them and this is what they wrote.

Even though BIM has been around for a number of years now we still aren’t clear on what it is and why. If you look at some of the answers in the image above, it is very interesting what our customers wrote down.

Those who are new to the industry are being told they need to do BIM but when they try and find out more, they are bamboozled by the terminology used by the industry. I personally like when we speak in acronyms to each other and confuse those who don’t know them.

We need to make sure that we all understand what it is, so it does not feel like a chore that just becomes part of our daily job.
