Does Brexit affect my Autodesk software?

Does Brexit affect my Autodesk software?

If you are using Autodesk software in both the UK and within any EU country then the answer is YES.

The UK left the European Union on 31st January 2020 and operating under the transition period until 1st January 2021.

We have had a lot of questions recently about the effect this will have on Autodesk license usage so we thought we would try to clarify.

Autodesk Terms of Use state that any Autodesk Subscription product without Premium Plan can be used within the territory of purchase which before Brexit has always meant any member country of the European Union.

In other words, if you are a UK business and buy software under your legal entity within the UK you have always been able to provide software to any of your employees working in any European Union country.

Or if you are a UK company part of a larger European Group they could technically buy Autodesk licenses within the European Union and provide access to UK based employees.

If any of the above are true for you. You will need to consider the way you subscribe to Autodesk software in the future.

The good news is that Autodesk has recently announced that any Subscription purchased or already midterm on or before 31st January 2021 will, for the life of that subscription term not be affected by this change until the next renewal point.

If you purchased a 3-year subscription license in the UK for your user based in say the Republic of Ireland on or before 31st January 2021 you will be covered under the European Union territory until the end of the current term. At which point you will need to purchase and register that license in the territory is it used in ie the EU, not the UK.

The same also applies the other way around – if you are a UK based legal entity currently using Autodesk software registered within the EU. At your next renewal point, you will need to subscribe and register those licences within the UK. Autodesk is allowing cross-border transfers in certain circumstances.

Man and Machine UK Ltd is part of the largest European Autodesk Value Added Reseller meaning that you can still purchase any EU-based licenses from us through our parent company Mensch und Maschine Gmbh and register them with Autodesk under the EU location. Likewise, if you currently purchase via your software for use within the UK from Mensch und Maschine Gmbh you will need to purchase and register these licences via Man and Machine UK.

You can still use the same contract manager for product assignment they will just need to be registered with Autodesk under the EU and not the UK.

The other option worth consideration, if you are eligible is that adding Autodesk Premium Plan to your contract which as well as some allows Global Centralised purchasing effectively meaning companies can purchase licenses in their home country for all employees regardless of location. Talk to your Man and Machine account manager to find out if you are eligible to add Premium Plan or if you need any additional please or advice about planning your UK Autodesk licenses.

I am sure the same will apply to many other software vendors so if you operate within the UK and EU it might be an idea to look into the licence agreements again.
