Configurations have been available in Autodesk Fusion for just over a year now. While they were a great addition when first released, the Fusion team have added various improvements to the functionality over the last few months. From the ability to duplicate existing configurations, to improving the display information, and configuring on-the-fly. Join us as we take a look at these improvements to an already great design process.
Duplicate Configurations
This is always a great feature when editing and managing Table based designs. The ability to duplicate configurations really helps speed up the design process, allowing for more time to focus on getting the main variations configured, then tweaking them to add the minor changes. This is done by Right-Clicking on the relevant configuration and selecting Duplicate.

These can now be reordered using the Move Up or Move Down button with the relevant configuration selected.

Improved Display Information
The display information has been improved when inserting a configured component, or switching configurations. As well as seeing the name of the configuration, the main parameters and/or features are now displayed too. This gives quick visibility of some of the major changes between the configurations, allowing for a more accurate selection.

Configure on-the-fly
When configurations were first released, the main workflow for adding features to the configuration was though the Configuration Table. You can now Configure on the fly, while adding features in during the process, if you know that the feature being added will be configurable. This is available in most of the core features include Extrude, Revolve, Hole, Chamfer and Fillet. During the creation or editing of the feature, we are now met with a Configure tab where, depending on the feature, different configurable options are available for selection.

Joint Variations
Joint variations are available when creating configurations with varying positions or components. Rather than supressing and un-suppressing joints for each combination of components, Joint Variations are now configurable. Whether you need to reposition a component and the centre of its engagement, changing the alignment or adjusting the motion limits. These can all be adjusted per Joint, meaning Joints can now be reused rather than recreated for each configuration.
