I have seen this error on many occasions, it is usually caused by an MSI (Microsoft Windows Installer) issue, rather than a problem with the Autodesk installation software itself.

We have listed some common 1603 errors below;

Setup Logs:
Install <AutodeskProduct> <Version> Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603

Dialog box during installation:
Error 1603: A fatal error occurred during installation.

Other Messages:
Install .NET Framework Runtime 3.0 Failed Failure is ignored, Result=1603
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express(AUTODESKVAULT) Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603
Install Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (x86) Failed Installation aborted, Result=1603

There are a couple of solutions you can try, the first is to see how full your TEMP folder is. If it is full, the files in the folder could conflict with some setup files. Clean the default temp directory and remove any unneeded files.

Enter %TEMP% in your start bar, this will open your TEMP directory. Please clear this folder of any files you don’t need. Please try to start the software again, and see if this helps.

The second solution I find works, is to check how much disk space your machines holds. If you do not have enough disk space to install the setup and store rollback files, this error usually appears. The space is needed to do a full installation and run the software.

Lastly, another common solution to this error is corrupt set up installation files. Exit or turn off conflicting and competing programs, including such things as virus scanners, word processors, spreadsheets, web browsers, system utilities, etc. Then launch the installation again.

Please make a habit of restarting the machine before you try the installation process again, and please always make sure you are the Administrator when attempting to install the software.
